Who we are

A Foundation for the future of Madagascar’s biodiversity

FAPBM is a Private Foundation that serves as an innovative financing mechanism for protected areas of Madagascar. FAPBM is endowed with a capital invested in international markets. Only the returns from the investments are spent to finance protected areas in Madagascar. This means that the capital remains intact over time, thus securing the sustainability of the biodiversity funding. After  more than 15 years, the mechanism is proving to be key as the only able to ensure sustainable and predictable financing for protected areas.

After 20 years of existence, the mechanism is proving to be central, as it is the only one capable of ensuring sustainable and predictable funding for protected areas.

Thanks to the confidence of contributors such as Conservation International, WWF, Agence Française de Développement (AFD), Fonds Français pour l’Environnement Mondial (FFEM), KfW and the Global Environment Facility, by 2025 the FAPBM will be working to preserve 75 protected areas spread over more than 6 million hectares.

Today, FAPBM is the leading trust fund for biodiversity conservation in Africa, with a capital of USD 157 million.
